To throw a heavy discus as far as possible while maintaining balance, form, and control. It’s not just about how far you can throw—it’s about how well you can execute the perfect throw with precision and technique!

equipment
  • The primary equipment for this event is the discus, a circular object made of wood, metal, or synthetic material.
  • Standard Weight: 2 kg.
rules for the throw
  1. Start Position: The throw must begin from a stationary position inside the throwing circle.
  2. Rotation Allowed: You can rotate within the circle, but touching the top of the metal ring or stepping outside the circle before the throw is completed will result in a foul.
  3. One-Handed Throw: The discus must be thrown with one hand only.
  4. Exit the Circle: After releasing the discus, you must exit the circle from the rear half.
  5. Landing Area: The discus must land within the marked sector lines for the throw to be valid.
  6. Measurement: The throw will be measured from the inside edge of the circle to the nearest point made by the discus on landing.

A throw is considered foul if:

  1. The athlete touches the ground outside the circle or the top of the ring during the throw.
  2. The discus lands outside the designated sector area.
  3. The athlete exits the circle before the discus has landed.
  4. The athlete uses both hands to throw the discus or employs illegal techniques.
  5. Any dangerous or improper actions occur during the event.
