Javelin Throw

Description

Javelin Throw is a track and field event where an athlete throws a long, spear-shaped implement called a javelin as far as possible. The event requires a combination of speed, strength, technique, coordination, and flexibility.

Rules and Regulations

Equipment

  1. The javelin is a metal or composite spear with a pointed tip.
  2. Standard weight and length: 800g (approx. 2.6m–2.7m long)

Runway and Sector

  1. The runway is usually 30 to 36 meters long.
  2. A throwing arc or foul line is marked at the end of the runway.

Rules for the Throw

  1. The javelin must be held only at the grip and thrown over the shoulder or upper arm.
  2. The athlete must not turn their back towards the landing area during the throw.
  3. The athlete must not touch or cross the foul line or arc before the javelin lands.
  4. The javelin must land tip first for the throw to be valid.
  5. The athlete must remain in control and exit from behind the foul line after the throw.
  6. The throw must be completed within the allotted time (usually 1 minute).

Fouls

  1. The athlete crosses or touches the foul line.
  2. The javelin is not thrown properly (i.e., thrown like a dart or from below the shoulder).
  3. The javelin does not land tip first.
  4. The athlete steps out of the runway boundaries during or after the throw.
  5. The javelin lands outside the sector lines.
